I Did It! |

Some more pictures of me during the race are here .
To help me with the challenge I face, I've joined The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program. The program helps regular people like me to complete a marathon, century, or triathlon. We have a coach, a tailored training program, great training partners, and tons of moral support! In addition, I have two Honored Teammates: Evan Gyger who's 2 1/2, and Maddie Matthews, 3 1/2 years old who both have Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). Thinking about what these two children are going through gives me strength when I'm suffering on a training run.
The best part of the program is raising money to help fund the fight against Leukemia and related cancers, diseases that are the number one killer of children between the ages of one and fourteen that kill over fifty thousand Americans each year. Also, the research The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society sponsors helps to find effective treatments of other cancers, including breast and lung cancer.
Please join me in the fight against these diseases, and in helping Evan and Maddie. My goal is to raise over $5,000, so please contribute as generously as you can. Seventy-five percent of the funds I raise go directly to research, and your contribution is completely tax deductible. Past contributions have helped raise the cure rate for children with ALL from 4% forty years ago to around 80% now. I hope that my support, and yours helps raise that to 100%! To help, please complete one of the Donor Forms linked to below and send me your tax deductible donation by September 30th, 2002.
I really appreciate any and all support you can give, and will keep you posted on how my training is progressing.
Thank You,
Robert Thille
| 2002-09-18 | Just a quick 20 minute loop around the neighborhood. About 1.8 miles. Felt pretty good afterward, not lagging like I felt after Saturday's 90 minute run. I think the few days off and trying to eat better and make sure I got plenty of fluids helped. |
| 2002-09-14 | Started at Leadbetter Beach, and ran out toward Las Positas. Made it just about to Ellings Park. 90 Minutes About 7.8 Miles round trip. Glad we're tapering for the marathon next week, as even the 90 minutes seemed to take a lot out of me. |
| 2002-09-11 | Morning Run from Home, down along the bike path toward UCSB. Made it about to where the bike path gets close to Hwy 217. Knees were starting to bug me again. 40 minutes, 3.8 miles round trip. |
| 2002-09-10 | Late Night Run from home. Started at 10:00 pm, ran about 35 minutes. Approx. 1.8 miles out, 1.8 back for 3.6 total. From home, along Hollister to the George "Ben" Page Memorial Youth Center and back. |
| 2002-09-07 | Started at the Montecito Athletic Club, near the bird refuge. 25 minutes out to the Harbor, and 25 back to MAC. Then 80 minutes south through Summerland to Toro Canyon and back. About 16.4 miles total. 3:30 total time. |
| 2002-07-06 - 2002-07-25 | Sailing from Hanalei, Kauai HI to San Francisco, CA. |
| 2002-07-02 | Home to Turnpike Overpass, out and back. 1.4mi each way. 26 min. |
| 2002-06-30 | Missed my crosstraining/easy recovery run today. Will have to make it up tomorrow morning. |
| 2002-06-29 | Longest Run Yet! (1:45) From the East Beach Grill to Ortega Hill and part way up Ortega Ridge Road too! Ran faster than I usually do. |
| 2002-06-27 | 40 minutes. Night run with Zoe along the bike path. Just to the golf course and back. |
| 2002-06-26 | 40 minutes. Ran with Ray Felton along the beach near shoreline park. |
| 2002-06-25 | 60 minutes from home to hill overlooking Hope Ranch. |
| 2002-06-20 | Finally managed to face the heat and do some running down in Cancun, MX. It was raining a little, but still very hot. Ran for 45 minutes, trying to make up for missing my weekly long run last Saturday. |
| 2002-06-06 | La Cumbre to La Playa 8 Mi. Race. Ran it with Ray Felton, and finished in about 1:37. |
